five years ago today

Five years ago today, at exactly this moment, we didn't even know if we were having a girl or a boy. Today, I walked hand-in-hand into a kindergarten classroom with my little buddy ready to start the adventure of school. WOW. Even though we've been at camp here all summer, Elliott knew something was different. A uniform, new shoes and a new backpack...and something called "kindergarten". Having his birthday fall on the first day of school was both exciting and stressful. We didn't want one event to overshadow the other as both were so important. The first thing the teacher said when we walked in and she passed us up was "Good morning Elliott" then she whispered "Happy Birthday Elliott". His big eyes got huge...how did she know? She said, "I have something for you." She stopped what she was doing, wherever she was going, and she walked over to her desk and picked up a big sticker that said Happy Birthday on it and she walked over to him and very sweetly put it on his shirt. Elliott looked up at me and said, "How did she know?"...and as she walked away she said, "A little birdie told me." With the most serious eyes and utmost concern, Elliott looked up at me and said,"But mom, birds don't talk?"

Life couldn't be any better. Happy birthday little buddy.
